Mount Madonna School junior Gracie Howley notes an important passage as her Values In World Thought class discusses the meaning of the work of poet Derek Walcott Tuesday. Values in World Thought, a two-year social science class that involves trips to Washington DC and to either India or South Africa, was created by teacher Ward Mailliard, and inspired by the work of Bill Moyers. The class is aimed to encourage students to define their own ethics and values and includes meeting and interviewing public servants and world leaders on the trips by reading and analyzing their work. Past interviewees include the Dalai Lama, Desmund Tutu, F.W. DeKlerk, Senator Bernie Sanders and many members of Congress. Read more
