Student Spotlight: Miles Wayne

Name, age, grade, city of residence:
Miles Wayne, 18, grade 12, Watsonville

Who or what inspires you?
My parents, and musicians and artists that have reached their goals through hard work inspire me. Musicians, including Kanye West, Tyler the Creator and David Bowie give me a lot of creative inspiration.

What is your favorite subject in school, and why?
Science with Humanity! It has a lot of the stuff I love about science, plus more unique things that I haven’t learned in other classes.

If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?
I would want people to be less worried about what the rest of society thought of them. There are too many people who aren’t themselves and are afraid to show who they really are. That should change.

If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
New York City or Chicago, both are very iconic cities that I have not yet been to. Both cities have inspired countless amounts of music, art and culture that I would love to see and experience.

Name one big challenge in your life right now:
Thinking about colleges

What is your dream job?
There are so many, including music producer (or anything in the music industry), fashion designer or a screenwriter for movies.

What are your three favorite things?
Music, fashion and friends

Favorite book:
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

What do you want to do after high school?
Attend a four-year university. I have no idea what I want to study yet, but I am more than excited to go to college!

Something that makes you smile:
Rap music, Rocket League and Chipotle

A favorite MMS memory – and why?
I think my sophomore trip to Catalina is one of my favorite memories. I had such a great time with all the people in my class and the stuff we learned was super interesting. It was also really fun being cast as a monkey with all of my friends in the Ramayana! last year. That experience definitely changed the way I look at the play, in particular, and performing arts, in general.

South Africa was pretty cool too, but it’s all I’ve talked about since June and you’ve probably heard A LOT about it, I wanted to switch things up.

Top three most played songs on your iTunes or iPod:

Never Meant by American Football

Flashing Lights by Kanye West

Pyramids by Frank Ocean
