Shunyata 2025 – Learning Journey Return

Mount Madonna School’s Values Program creates opportunities for students to expand their horizons, to be curious and courageous, to receive through giving and to learn by experiencing. This year’s Learning Journey to India was yet another manifestation of these opportunities for the class of 2025 seniors who bestowed the word, Shunyata (meaning, “the true nature of emptiness”) on their trip to set their intention and to goals.

Shunyata is a Tibetan word that means “Emptiness.” More precisely, empty from an independent reality. In Buddhism, it is interpreted as the “true nature of reality.” The seniors chose this name because they wanted the theme of the trip to be centered around being in the present, accepting change in perspective, and openness to the unknown. These are all aspects of traveling to a new country, especially one as vibrant and culturally diverse as India.

Join our seniors and the Values Program director and chaperones on Wednesday, March 19 for a special viewing of their Learning Journey video and speak with them directly about their experience.
