WATSONVILLE — Heart and the pure will to fulfill a dream helped lift Mount Madonna School’s girls volleyball team to its second state title appearance in school history Tuesday night.

The top-seeded Hawks rallied past No. 2 Nueva 18-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-23 to claim the CIF NorCal Division V title Tuesday night in front of a deafening standing-room only audience that expected to see plenty of fireworks out of senior outside hitter Paola Jacob’s explosive right arm.

They got that and then some. Jacobs finished with a team-high 25 kills, but it was her match-winning shot — a dink that dropped between defenders to the hardwood floor — that electrified the crowd one last time. Read more
