Santa Cruz Sentinel, Local Roundup: Hawks Earn Scholastic Award

Santa Cruz Sentinel, 11/19/2017, “Local Roundup, Girls Volleyball,” by Sentinel staff.

Hawks earn scholastic award >> Mount Madonna School announced Friday that the girls volleyball team was awarded with the CIF 2017-18 Fall Season Scholastic Championship Team Award.

The Hawks’ collective GPA is 3.83 and it’s the 14th time a volleyball team — boys or girls — has been honored.

The team scholastic awards were instituted by the Central Coast Section Board of Managers in 1985 as a way to recognize teams with the highest collective grade-point average in their respective sport.

“With the varsity girls earning the CCS team scholastic award my assumptions have been confirmed,” commented Head Coach Erin Mitchell (’10). “These girls are not just incredible athletes, they are not just devoted students. They are truly a team made up of student-athletes, who hold those two positions on the same tier, not one above another.”

Mount Madonna, the No. 3 seed in the NorCal Division V semifinals, will host No. 7 Clear Lake on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Read more
