Fifteen Mount Madonna School (MMS) high school students attended the 28th annual Stanford Model United Nations Conference at Stanford University on November 8-10.

Model United Nations (Model UN) brings together students from around the country and the world to engage in discussion, debate and consensus-building on a number of current, historical and “crisis” topics.  Students represent countries and other stakeholders, while researching topics, writing position papers and working to build consensus for formal committee resolutions.

General Assembly committees included the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Disarmament and International Security (DISEC), the High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Labor Organization (ILO). Historical committees included the Athenian Assembly during the Peloponnesian War and the African Union. Crisis committees included the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Russo-Japanese War.

Committee topics included childhood immunization and disease protection, healthcare in refugee camps, protections for global supply chain workers, the Mytilenean Revolt and expanding broadband access in African countries.

Looking ahead to March 7-9, 2025, MMS Model UN students will attend the 73rd annual Berkeley Model UN conference hosted by the University of California, Berkeley.
