Recently Mount Madonna School (MMS) ninth grade biology students spent some time sitting quietly alongside a campus pond observing various ecological principles. Students noticed and described abiotic and biotic factors, the carbon, water and nitrogen cycle, as well as identifying the MMS biome and observing food webs.
“MMS students are incredibly lucky to be able to study these important scientific phenomena in such an amazing environment,” commented science teacher Nicole Silva. “Students are able to walk out of their classroom and are immediately surrounded by an environmentally rich area. They are able to observe and explore firsthand, many of the biological concepts we are studying in the classroom.”
