Makers’ Spaces, Musical Connections and Middle School Statistics: Faculty to Present at CAIS Meeting
A statistics unit for sixth grade students, how to establish a makers’ engineering and creativity space and connecting cultures through music, will be the focus of three presentations offered by Mount Madonna School (MMS) faculty members Lisa Catterall, Premdas Rohan and Sarojani Rohan to educators attending the Northern California Regional Meeting of the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) on March 9 at Head Royce School in Oakland.

Ramayana! 2015 Casting Reflections & Cast List
Congratulations to all for completing the audition process. You’ve done your part. Now comes the next step- casting of the play. As we know, casting can be challenging for both performers and directors alike. Often, casting is not a true measure of how we as performers took risks of involvement, faced fears, expanded talents and perhaps discovered internal nourishing pools of creativity. That is why it is important no matter what role assigned we allow ourselves positive reflection about our own growth within the process.
Kale, Kohlrabi and Tangerines: ‘Nutritious’ Learning at UCSC Life Lab
Earlier this week, Mount Madonna School fourth and fifth grade students took a field trip to UCSC’s Life Lab to learn more about nutrition and the role of organic gardens. Docents shared with the students about how different colored vegetables help support distinct body functions, such as memory, bone growth and eye development; they also took students on a garden ‘tasting tour,’ with students sampling chard, kale, rhubarb, kohlrabi and tangerines.Featured Video: Fifth Grade Students Address the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council
On February 20, the fifth grade class presented to the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council. They asked the council to consider changing the current “recommendation” of a 50-yard boating distance from whales in the Monterey Bay to a 100-yard law.Students were well-spoken, educated and mature! Great job!

Today the fifth grade class presented to the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council. They asked the council to consider changing the current “recommendation” of a 50-yard boating distance from whales in the Monterey Bay to a 100-yard law. Students were well-spoken, educated and mature! Great job!“The students’ presentation to members of the Council went really well,” commented fifth grade teacher and project co-leader Jessica Cambell.

In 2013 while in India, Mount Madonna School students interviewed Rinchen Khando Choegyal, director of the Tibetan Nuns Project. Choegyal s a former Minister of Education in the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, founding President of the Women’s Tibetan Association and sister-in-law of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. She resides in Dharamsala.
