Morgan Hill Times: First Days Mark Incredible Experience

Morgan Hill Times, 4/22/2011, “Journey to India: First days mark incredible experience.”

Mount Madonna School students Maya Guzman, Michaela Schuessler and Emma Fladeboe and classmates visit the Jama Masjid Mosque in New Delhi, India. The largest and best-known mosque in India, the Jama Masjid was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, builder of the Taj Mahal and completed in the 1656 AD. Female visitors to the mosque dressed in western attire, are required to don colorful smocks provided at the entrance before they enter the premises. As a sign of respect, all visitors remove their shoes while they are inside mosque grounds. Photo by Shmuel Thaler, Santa Cruz Sentinel

Chelsea Bess, Noah Limbach and Susie Bryan read a quote from Mahatma Gandhi inscribed at Raj Ghat, the Gandhi memorial located in New Delhi. A striking feature of the memorial is a black marble platform marking the spot where Gandhi was cremated in 1948. Photo by Shmuel Thaler, Santa Cruz Sentinel
