Congratulations to Mount Madonna School (MMS) second grade student Siena Liddicoat for being published!
Bookshop Santa Cruz has released a book featuring original works by 15 young authors, ages 6 to 17. Liddicoat’s story,How the Snake Got Its Scales, received a Third Place award in the six to nine year old division of the Santa Cruz’s 2015 Young Writers Contest the bookshop sponsors. Liddicoat wrote her story as a first grader during the previous school year. A copy of the book will be donated to each awardee’s school library.

MMS first and second grade teacher Cassia Laffin said she reads Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories with her students each year.  With this inspiration, the first grade students each write their own story of how an animal got its unique features.

“I’m so proud of Siena for receiving this recognition,” commented Laffin. “Her story was cleverly written and filled with great descriptions and dialog.”
