6th & 7th Grade Retreat Week

April 14 - April 18
Location: Upper Campus

Though sixth and seventh grade students will physically stay on campus during this experience, the retreat week will follow the framework of a learning journey through an intentional call, journey, and return, mirroring the archetypal hero’s journey. A learning journey begins with a preparation stage that can involve learning new content, vocabulary, and processes that may be useful for the journey. The journey itself relies on students to explore their curiosity, be open to opportunities, and be willing to take risks. It tests each person, challenges assumptions, and forces students to engage in perspective taking and critical thinking. The return is an integration stage. Students reflect on what they learned from the journey and incorporate it into daily life.

We will incorporate experiences that address key prerequisites for off-campus learning journeys such as self-awareness, active listening, reflection, and the exploration of questions such as:

  • How do my actions impact others?

  • How can I engage with curiosity and intentional inquiry?

  • How can recognition of my needs become a tool to respond productively to challenges?

  • How do I engage productively with a group and effectively respond to team dynamics?

Please look out for communications from Blythe Collier closer to the time, which will contain more information including the retreat theme which will be chosen based on a combination of faculty and student input.
