Mount Madonna School has always valued community service, both in concept and practice. MMS was built, literally and figuratively, by volunteers. Service is a component of Positive Character Development and Creative Self’expression.
Middle and high school students volunteer, both during school hours and after school, in ways that are meaningful to them.
We believe that service can be viewed as stewardship: caring for ourselves, each other, our families and communities, the animal kingdom, and the earth. Our stewardship and community service proposal requires the following:
For Middle School, a minimum of 6 hours each year, completed outside of school hours , in any of the following areas:
- family
- school
- community (the local neighborhood may serve as community)
For High School students, a minimum of 8 hours each year in any of the following areas:
- family
- neighborhood
- school
- larger community.
Middle and High School students’ hours should be documented by the student’s community service supervisor on the Community Service Form, and submitted to Bob. Click on the attached file to download the form or you may pick it up in the Reception Office at school. Questions? Please contact Bob Caplan at bob.caplan_AT_mountmadonna.org
