Class of ’23 Senior Spotlight: Cecily Kelly

Name, city of residence:

Cecily Kelly, Capitola

Grade you started at MMS:

Preschool

What inspires you?

Seeing people work hard and achieve their goals really inspires me. I think seeing other people take the time and effort to accomplish their goals reminds me that I can do that also.

What is your favorite subject in school, and why?

My favorite subject is Science with Humanity. I love learning about such a variety of important topics in science such as bioethics, climate change and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). This class really opened my eyes about a lot of issues I thought I had set opinions on, and has made me think.

If you had the power to change on thing in the world, what would it be?

I would work on climate change and the way that people view our planet. We only have one Earth, and people need to realize that.

If you could anywhere, where would you go, and why?

I would go to Iceland to see the glaciers before they melt, and I would visit Kenya to go on safari.

Name one big challenge in your life right now:

One big challenge in my life right now is trying to decide where I want to go to college. I have always been indecisive, and this is one of the most important decisions I will have to make.

What is your dream job and why?

My dream job is working part-time at a bakery, while also working part-time at my own business.

What are your three favorite things?

My friends and family, Harry Styles and going on trips and adventures

Favorite book:

It’s hard to choose one book, but probably “The Hunger Games” series by Suzanne Collins.

What do you want to do after high school?

I want to go to college, and then travel some before I find a job.

Something that you are proud of – and why:

I am proud of my cooking and baking skills. I love making dinner for my family and baking for people, and everyone seems to enjoy what I make.

Something that makes you smile:

My cats and dogs

A favorite MMS memory – and describe why:

My favorite MMS memories are all of the trips we have gone on throughout the years, because they are a great time to get to know your classmates.

The three most-played songs on your favorite playlist:

“All You’rn” by Tyler Childers,  “Keep Driving” by Harry Styles, and “Hell N Back” by Bakar.
