Class of ’22: Senior Spotlight: Grace Timan

Name, city of residence:

Grace Timan, Watsonville

Grade you started at MMS:

I started in preschool!

What inspires you?

Seeing people excited over their accomplishments. Specifically, seeing my friends celebrate their accomplishments because of how hard I know they have worked to get there.

What is your favorite subject in school, and why?

I’ve always been an English person, however, more specifically I enjoy the poetry unit in history. At times classic literature can be really dense and hard to unload, but pulling apart poetry is so interesting to me. The way everything about the poem affects the overall feeling is so interesting.

If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?

I would love it if there was a lot of positive representation for all marginalized groups. I think getting to see minorities in positive roles would be so beneficial.

If you could go anywhere, where would you go?

I would go to a Taylor Swift concert with Blythe.

Name one big challenge in your life right now:

Trying to live in the moment and appreciate what time I have left with my class. It’s hard to not let the anxiety of incoming college dictate how I act around my friends now.

What is your dream job and why?

I want to be a media representative for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), I think it would combine my true crime interest and my journalism passion.

What are your three favorite things?

Hot yoga, milkshakes, and celeb gossip (and Shannon!)

Favorite book:

I love the Percy Jackson books by Rick Riordan. They were my childhood favorites and are still my safety books.

What do you want to do after high school?

I don’t know exactly what I want from life yet, but at least for the next four years, I am really excited to be attending the University of California, Los Angeles with Alyssa. I really just want to enjoy my time and grow as a person. Hopefully, I will learn what exactly I want from life.

Something that you are proud of – and why:

I am really proud of my outfits, I love my sense of style and I am so proud of the things I put together for school. That is also how I have built confidence.

Something that makes you smile:

When my cat and dog fight the cuddle, I love watching them interact; and Blythe.

A favorite MMS memory – and why?

In eighth grade, we were all preparing for “Ramayana!” and everyone started singing “I Wait Here for You” together. It just reminded me how connected everyone is at the school and how our shared history has created so much for us.

Top three most-played songs on your favorite:

Currently, my three favorite songs are “I Don’t Know You Like I Used To” by Mercury, “Block Me Out” by Gracie Abrams, and “Nothing on You” by B.o.B, featuring Bruno Mars.
