MS and HS Boys Volleyball: Congratulations on Great Seasons!

Being part of a team requires dedication, regular practice, and a commitment to one’s teammates, coach, and self.

Throughout the athletic seasons at MMS, there is also a tremendous amount of team support from parents: helping with everything from carpooling and transportation, to feeding hungry players, doing admissions or book for home matches, or lending visible and vocal support as fans on the bleachers. Thank you parents – all of your help is greatly appreciated!

The Hawks Boys Varsity, coached by PK McDonald, finished league play as undefeated Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League (SCCAL) Champions! They went on to compete in the Central Coast Section (CCS) Division II Championships, finishing in Second Place.

“This year’s squad returned with a vengeance,” notes Sidd McDonald, Mount Madonna School athletic director. “They met their goal of maintaining an undefeated home match record, and in fact, were undefeated in league play.  Looking to next year, I see a strong core group of players returning to lead a run toward another league championship.”

The Hawks Junior Varsity, coached by Nate Rockhold, played a great season, too, finishing undefeated among junior varsity teams in SCCAL!

“The junior varsity is an elite team in the entire region,” comments McDonald, “only losing a single [non-league] match all season to Bellarmine during a tournament. They are strong from top to bottom as far as players, and it showed in numerous players being promoted up to varsity at the end of the season.”

The middle school boys, the Black Hawks, grew a lot as a team this year, and this was evident in their strong season finish.

“The boys got better every week,” McDonald says. “They were enthusiastic and passionate, and we all had a very good time. We were very fortunate to be accepted into the Central Coast Athletic League (CCAL) this year. This past week, the team competed in a 3-day tournament hosted by San Lorenzo Valley, where they finished in fourth place out of eight teams – a big jump after going into play seeded seventh.”

Way to go Hawks!
