Santa Cruz County turned out one No. 1 seed for the upcoming Central Coast Section girls volleyball playoffs, but it wasn’t Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Tournament champion Soquel, nor SCCAL regular-season co-champ Harbor.

And it wasn’t Watsonville, champion of the Pacific Coast Athletic League’s Santa Lucia Division. The Wildcatz (22-10, 14-1), coming off their first league title since 2011, lost a CCS play-in game game against visiting North Salinas in five games on Wednesday. They failed to secure an at-large berth at the CCS seeding on Thursday night. Read more
