The Mount Madonna School (MMS) girls cross country team has received the Central Coast Section (CCS) highest academic honor by the CIF: “2016-17 Fall Season Scholastic Championship Team Award.”
The Mount Madonna team was honored as having the highest collective scholastic average among CCS D-V teams, 3.909, and the second highest average among all CCS cross country teams. Team members are: Caroline Smith and Cat Ching, 12th grade, and Sanjna Kulkarni, 11th grade. Congratulations to these scholar athletes!
“I’m very excited to hear this news,” commented coach Nicholas Cabassa. “I’ve always believed that a strong mind is the common thread that binds all great athletes. And the good news keeps coming, Cat has qualified to compete in CCS!”
These awards were instituted by the CCS Board of Managers in 1985 as a way to recognize the top five teams with the highest collective grade-point average in their respective sport during that season of competition.
This is the second time an MMS girls cross country team has earned this distinction; they also received the award in 2015-16.
