“Our athletes all improved throughout the season and Pierce Culbertson ended the season undefeated placing first in all six meets,” she continued. “Our seventh-eighth grade girls team – Nyah Melton, Pierce Culbertson and Rio Vivanco-Risner – placed second as a team at the October 24 Small School Championship meet at Anna Jean Cummings Park in Soquel.”

Middle School Cross Country, 9/19/2024: Mount Madonna School (MMS) hosted a challenge meet on September 19 that included 59 runners representing eight schools: Santa Cruz Montessori (Wavecrest), Salesian Elementary and Junior High School, Holy Cross, Georgiana Bruce Kirby Preparatory School, Twin Lakes Christian, Chrysostum Classical Academy, Baymonte Christian and Mount Madonna.

Two coed races were held on the 1.7 mile course that started and finished at the MMS Hawks’ Nest Gym: seventh/eighth grades and sixth grade and under. Top MMS finishers were Pierce Culbertson, first place, seventh/eighth girls; and River Russell, fourth place, seventh/eighth boys. Click here for the meet results

“We love hosting cross country meets and sharing our beautiful redwood hilly trails with students from other schools,” commented Assistant Coach Kami Pacheco. “Because this is where we train on crisp foggy mornings, it seems to give us a ‘home court advantage,’ because our kids are so used to running and hiking up and down the hills on the uneven terrain. It’s not an easy course so just finishing the race is a win for everyone!”

Congratulations to all of the Hawks who competed – well done! Thank you to Mike Henderson for the great photos. Click here for the meet results.
