This trip was, for all of us who went, a direct experience of the principle of Ubuntu, "I am who I am because of others." In truth, no journey in life happens without the help of others. Certainly it took a lot of hard work and perseverance, but it also required the good luck of friendship with a wonderful South African, Dawie Crous, financial support from one of our main benefactors, Ray Flynn and support from a host of others who made so many important contributions to this experience. The inital inspiration to take a group of high school Juniors and Seniors of the Values in World Thought program on this ambitious journey to South Africa was an opportunity to meet and speak with one of the great men of our times, Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Tutu was a hero of the bitter struggle against Apartheid in South Africa. As importantly, he was a major exponent of the post Apartheid "Truth and Reconciliation Councils" that helped heal the nation. We were also inspired by the transformational magic of our 2007 trip to India to interview the Dalai Lama as part of Project Happiness. From that trip we knew the power of young people coming together with positive regard and we had that reaffimed on this journey.
