Emily, we were right with you on that bus! The Ubuntu Blog is rich with images and writings. Each one is a piece of art. I always used to wonder what folks meant when they said "our kids are the future." It seemed so far away. This brings it here and now. Good work, play, seeking, and teaching! Thank you.

Michelle - you nailed it.

They have had an amazing opportunity, and have been making the most of it. Something that will be with them for the rest of their lives.

The real question and "benefit" of this journey - not just to them - but the whole world will be "what they do with this experience" upon their return.

I expect each of the students will "change the world" in some concrete and meaningful way in the future - but the extent of that remains to be seen. I wish them all the best on their journey home, and bright future.

I have really enjoyed following your journey and reading the posted comments that have followed. What strikes me is not what an amazing trip you are having (as that certainly is true) but that a vital path that has now opened for each of you upon your return. As a teacher, I feel that with education comes responsibility. The true value of this trip, therefore, is not in the daily events as they have unfolded. The true value/learning lies in the "what's next?" What responsibilties do you each now have knowing what you do and having experienced what you have seen? If we are all connected, as the name of your trip suggests, then what can you do with this new knowledge, what will you do to help an unjust world move toward peace, harmony, and justice?

This is a fantastic group blog. And, from the posts, an amazing group of kids. Thank you for sharing your experiences this way. Your philosophy of how to travel in a different culture and seeing it in action has been very meaningful to follow. Many comments you have made have stayed with me - the amazing grace of a lion, wondering about the importance of what you are doing, the harder you work the luckier you get, the cleanliness of Cape Town, contrasts between the rich and the poor, the cave that served as a bathroom and a meeting place, the former prisoner's detached way of speaking, the apparent happiness of the poor, and the meaning of Ubuntu, to name a few. You've done a great job teaching me about South Africa!

Those of us here at home, reading your blog, are experiencing our own version of Ubuntu. A video about African wildlife is so much more engaging and compelling when there are familiar faces along with the giraffes and elephants. We "get it" so much more because we are seeing it through your eyes. Thanks for the insights and the great photos.

Really nice write ups and images being posted - thanks! The energy and time it takes to put a trip like this together must have daunted you all at times so its great to see (and read) just how much is returned. "Good on" Ward and the students.
