High School

On Friday, June 14th, the Junior class from Mount Madonna School will depart for a Learning Journey to South Africa. While there we will speak with top world thinkers such as Desmond Tutu, visit a number of schools, and engage in community service. We are also bringing goods to donate to Philani Child Health and Nutrition Project and to Botshabelo Children’s AIDS Project.

Hello!

My name is Aimee Hopkins, and I am a senior at Mount Madonna School. I am working to raise money for a school in Africa, named Creative Minds International Academy, for my Capstone Project this year. The school is in Jos, a very poor part of Nigeria. The founder and principal of CMIA, Emmanuel Ivorgba, has incorporated Values-based education in his school to teach universal human values, such as compassion and kindness, to his students. He has also worked to stop the practice of violent consequences traditionally practiced in most schools as punishment for unsatisfactory student behavior. Mr. Ivorgba also works to end tensions between Muslims and Christians.

 We are thrilled to announce that we reached our goal of raising $25,000 for our school. Huge thanks to all the hard work by students and their families in gathering pledges and walking!

Students who reach their goals will be celebrating in the money booth, among other activities.

The Mount Madonna School (MMS) graduating class of 2013 and the current third grade class have a special story to tell together. They are the first two classes who have maintained a mentoring relationship across divisions for three consecutive years.

Guest panelists and participants at Mount Madonna School’s (MMS) recent 4th annual Career Forum shared a broad array of educational and career-related experiences, and advised the assembled high school students to take calculated risks, be open to opportunities, and find supportive mentors.

MMS' junior class is selling "Sawubona Ngikhona" t-shirts to raise money for the organizations it will visit and take donations to in South Africa. For the third consecutive year, the Mount Madonna School (MMS) boys varsity volleyball team has emerged on top in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League (SCCAL) regular season play! Led by an accomplished handful of experienced senior athletes, the Hawks are currently 11-1 in SCCAL, with an overall record of 24-8 (to date).
