Transportation Procedures
Communication of Change in Transportation:
If you are changing your child’s transportation arrangements, please call our school office the day of the change and inform the receptionist. They, in turn, with notify the teacher and write a note for the bus monitor, so all are aware of the change.
Rainy Day Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
The Lower School regularly meets and departs from the Farmhouse Bus Stop Area. Students should never be dropped off and left alone at the bus stop, in a classroom area or at the Upper Campus.
During heavy rains, our PreK-2nd grades students will go directly to their classrooms and grades 3-5 will board a bus to take them to the Courtside Campus.

MMS: A Green School
Mount Madonna School has been a proud member of the Green Schools Program for several years. As a Green/Waste Free School, we are constantly looking for ways to reduce the amount of trash we generate as a school and instead reuse and recycle many of the items we use on campus every day. (Did you know that Santa Cruz County generates more than one million pounds of trash everyday?)
PLEASE Drive Safely to and from Our School
Quiz question:
When driving in mountains, who has the right-of-way on narrow road ?
a. vehicle going uphill?
b. vehicle going downhill?
Answer: Vehicle traveling uphill has right-of-way. Vehicle traveling downhill backs up to let him pass...
Welcome Back to School from Head of Lower School
August 8, 2012
Dear MMS Lower School Families,
The summer weather has arrived on the mountain as we begin to feel the heat. The lake is low with the elodea in full bloom. As I walked the campus this morning, rechecking maintenance improvements, I was struck by what a truly special place the Mount Madonna School and Community is. The turkeys and deer graze the hillsides and the people walk silently to breakfast, enjoying the quiet space interrupted only by bird calls and water flowing.
Summertime Play and the Phenology of Learning
Reflections from Summer
by Supriya Mary McDonald
Summertime is space for growth, renewal and adventure in my household. Having been in education now for over 36 years as an adult and 15 years as a student and daughter of a teacher, my internal time clock has always been in rhythm with the cycle of school life. Fall was the time for new beginnings, filled with excitement and curiosity; Winter, a time for study and indoor wonderings and experiments; Spring, the time for applying new knowledge, tracking progress and performance and finally Summer, the time for unscheduled play, learning and adventure. I am often surprised by the amount of growth that happens in our students over the down time of Summer. For me, summer camping, hiking and being in the outdoor environment, contains the nourishment and connection I need to broaden my perspective of the whole.
