Summer at Mount Madonna School

Mount Madonna School's Summer Program in 2013 runs July 8 - August 2
Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 3:30pm

4-week program: register for one, two, three, or all four weeks.

Taught by MMS faculty members Jenni Leach, Hema Walker and Isa Stead, this program is designed for students entering grades 1st through 8th.

Spend time in the mountains this summer at Mount Madonna School's fun and enriching summer program! Four weeks of cognitive, experiential and reflective learning in a nurturing, engaging and active environment. Each week children will engage in exploring, discovering, and creating. Weekly themes will be investigated through daily fun activities including:
 
  • Drawing, Painting, Crafting
  • Building, Desigining
  • Journaling, Stories, Music
  • Gardening
  • Cooking
  • Cooperative Games
  • Hiking and Outdoor Physical Activities

Week 1: “Making the Mind Matter”

The focus this week is on emotional intelligence and mindfulness, self-awareness, self-expression and self-reflection. 

Week 2: “Building our Relationships”

This program emphasizes social intelligence and teamwork, cooperation, communication and compassion.

Week 3: “Creating Cultural Connections”

The program will focus on respecting diversity and differences, beliefs, traditions and tolerance. 

Week 4: “Exploring the Environment”

Children will explore and investigate the rich biodiversity of local ecosystems and the power they have to create happiness in nature, with trips to:

  • Henry Cowell State Park
  • Wilder Ranch State Park
  • Henry Coe State Park
  • A Santa Cruz state beach
  • Elkhorn Slough Marine Sanctuary

Activities will include digital photography, journaling, art and hiking. 

NEW this year: Horseback riding and basketball!

  • Horseback riding for 1st - 4th grades offered in Week 1
  • Horseback riding for 5th - 8th grades offered in Week 2
  • Basketball skills for 4th - 8th grades offered in Week 3
